Disconnected

We are in November 2023, and I have an old-year resolution: to write more. It’s not that I write little; after all, as a lawyer, my days are divided between reading, writing, and public speaking. What I lack is writing about other topics, about subjects that interest me outside of work. This is an attempt to start just that.

I’ve decided to quit social media – a belated but revealing and very positive move. With this, I gained something truly invaluable: time. In a world increasingly consumed by the hustle culture, finding time for oneself seems more important than ever.

Recently, I read a post that encapsulates my current feelings about time:

“I try not to pay too much attention to time, but sometimes it’s hard to ignore. It passes far too quickly for my liking, but that’s also because I’m nearing an age of self-reflection, but let’s not go there! I enjoy routine, and with that, life can get a little hazy albeit structured. The beginning of a year can look much like the end of one. But I’m making a concerted effort to take stock of how I want to spend my time, what gives me energy, what projects I’m involved in, and how much bandwidth I have available to make a meaningful impact on those projects.”

With more spare time and encouraged by dissidents who chose the same path, I’ve decided to start this project. From now on, I intend to share part of my daily life, some thoughts, and interests. Only here and nowhere else.
